Yarn Thread StringJanine Vangool editor/designer
Uppercase, 2021, Canada Yarn, string, thread utilitarian objects of great versatility and beauty. The colorful images in the book inspired my choice of bright colors of leather. I wanted to make a traditional fine binding with the string/ thread obviously present but, except for the endbands, not actually visible. The book is sewn on raised cords to highlight the sewing and board attachment. I used the thread and mull that are ubiquitous to bookbinding to create the decorations. I left the edges the natural soft pattern created by the printed images extending beyond the trim marks. Full leather binding sewn on raised cords with laced-in boards. Bound in hot pink goatskin with onlays of purple and blue leather embossed with string and sanded. Natural edges, double core French endbands. Pastedowns and flyleaves of Japanese paper decorated with torn pieces of mull and endsheets printed with string and mull. Bound 2021 |
