Steel Horizon: Poems of the North SeaJonathan Wonham, Illustrated by Nick Wonham
Oldham, England. Incline Press, 2013. No. 190 of 200, signed. 30.7 x 21 x 2.5 cm Cold, wet, isolated, hazardous; the roustabouts, roughnecks, & drillers, working on offshore rigs in the North Sea live a life both banal and wild. I was inspired by the compelling descriptions of the “ordinary” and wanted to create a binding that was true to both the rough and tumble existence of the subjects and the incongruous poignancy of the poetry. Full leather, laced-on boards binding, in grey goatskin with inlays and onlays of metal and variously treated leather. The horizon line continues across the edge-to-edge leather doublures and painted flyleaves. Natural edges and painted leather endbands. Title is blind tooled and painted. Bound in 2020. |
